Casas de Hospede - Private Homes that accept tourists

Bed & Breakfasts are a new alternative or not traditional modality of lodging. Currently these kind of lodging are generally managed by their owners that decide to destine it to lodge foreign tourists, preferably. These houses are not simple houses, but generally are big houses recycled, some of the 19th Century, with history or with a typical architecture which is interesting for the traveler.

Tourists that choose a B&B to be lodged are not adept to the large 5 stars hotel and to the conventional tours. This is more for independent travelers, that do not buy normal tourist packages and that visit a country for "feeling" as the local inhabitant. A traveler who does not worry about comfort, per sie, neither the facilities of the lodging, they are more interested in knowing about the local culture, the ways of life, experiences, etc.

The way these Bed & Breakfasts operate are different in many cases. Most of these lodgings are personal houses, where a family lives, that at the same time shares their space with the guests. In other cases the house does not have inhabitants, and is destined completely for tourists but likewise receives the name of B&B, because their offer bed and breakfast (in Brazil called Cama, Café e Rede).

We have at the same time B&B modest (or pousadas), with generally low rates, but also we can find exclusive lodgings in magnificent large houses with an exclusive attention whose rate is similar to 4 or 5 stars hotel. The possibilities of each B&B will depend on if is a house with inhabitants or destined totally the guests, the degree of importance and professionalism that the owners want to give to the business, etc.

We must keep in mind that this type of lodging is more prefered by American and European tourists, the countries where the b&b industry is more developed. In Brazil the growth of Bed & Breakfast (Cama, Café and Rede) is every day growing, and is a business of low investment and redituable. The key of the business is the deal with the guest. Many tourists already are tired to be lodged in 5 stars hotel that are exactly equal and of the impersonal deals offered in those hotels.

The tourist that lodges in a B&B searchs for the personalized deal, to exchange experiences with the local inhabitants, and to experience their customs, etc.

Housing tourists in regional family homes is a new option that has been developed with success in Rio de Janeiro, and will expand over the entire country. The idea is the same as networks of "Bed and Breakfasts" (called Cama e Café in Brazil) in Europe and the USA, or as, housing touists in homes of regional families. A tourist interested in brazilian culture or the local lifestyles, for example, can stay in the home of persons or families with the same interests, as a Cultural Exchange.

It is not only the question of accomodations that the staff of the “Andetur Brazilian Travel Club” offers this different service. They are totally involved in the area of the Northeat and the Seridó, with a project of substantial tourism, that has the support of Sebrae/RN. According to the project Roteiro Seridó, they propose to offer workshops in the schools in Acari and other communities in the Seridó and qualification workshops for business persons and waiters from diverse bars and restaurants in the area, showing them the importance to protect the region, to provide good treatment for the tourists and how all this can possibly provide a better life for the local community.

This month, the daily rates of double rooms might be between R$ 65,00 (US$ 30.00) to R$ 210 (US$ 95.00), with breakfast provided. For the Easter Week (in April) or long holidays, the idea would be to close a package of three days, or with, prices between R$ 195,00 to R$630,00, for a double room. (+/- depending on the house)

"I had, as part of my proposed project for Acari, an idea to start this using the Information Center in the park, and the Tourist Center at Gargalheiras, and from our reservations office in Natal, the capital. Included is the idea to rent bicycles for the tourists. The idea of "CicloTourism" is ideal for Acari. The 'Centers' also could be like a transportation center for senior citizens or any person that doesn´t want to cycle or walk and to provide a dispatch center for the community using local guides."

Hospedar turistas em casas de famílias da região é uma novidade que está sendo desenvolvida com sucesso no Rio de Janeiro, e vou expandir para todo pais. A idéia é a mesma das redes de "Bed and Breakfast" (Cama e Café) da Europa e dos EUA, ou seja, hospedar turistas em casas de famílias da região. Um turista interessado em cultura brasileira ou na flora local, por exemplo, pode ficar hospedado na casa da pessoas ou familia com mesma interesse - como Intercambio Cultural.

Não é só na questão da hospedagem que o pessoal do “Andetur Brazilian Travel Club” oferece um serviço diferenciado. Eles também estão totalmente ligados a area do Nordeste e Seridó, através de um projeto de turismo sustentável, que tem apoio do Sebrae/RN. Através do projeto Roteiro Seridó, eles oferecem oficinas em escolas do Acari e outras comunidades do Seridó e workshops de qualificação para comerciantes e garçons dos diversos bares e restaurantes da área, mostrando a eles a importância de cuidar da região, de se tratar bem o turista e de como tudo isso pode melhorar a vida da comunidade local.

Neste mês, as diárias dos quartos duplos podem ser entre R$ 65,00 e R$ 210,00, com café-da-manhã. Para a Semana Santa (em abril) ou feriados prolongado, a idéia é fechar pacotes de três dias, ou seja, preços entre R$ 195,00 a R$ 630,00, o quarto duplo. (+/- dependendo da casa)

Eu tenho, como parte de meu projeto para Acari, uma idea para implantar esse tipo de negócio atras de Centro de Informações na praça, de Centro Turistica Gargalheiras, e nosso escritorio na capital Natal. Incluido a idea do aluguel de bicicletas para os turistas. O negocio do "cicloturismo" e ideal para Acari. Os 'Centros' tambem podem ficar como um centro do transporte para os idosos ou qualquer pessoa que não pedalar ou andar a pé e para orientar passeios da comunidade com guias local.
