As part of Andetur Brazilian Travel Club´s Acari project, Capt. Donald Reid, president of both the USA division of the club (NGO) and the Brazilian division (ONG - Associação ABTC-Brasil) is starting construction of two shallow draft catamarans scheduled to provide ecotours on the açude Gargalheiras.

Proposed length of each is 36 ft with a beam of 10 ft. Construction of the pontoons - frames local hardwoods covered by marine grade plywood manufactured in the Amazon. The hulls will then be covered with fiberglass as pictured.
Not shown in the picture above is the special marine composting tiolets which will be imported from the United States. Gargalheiras is a water reservoir providing drinkable water for local communities.
